Template Driven Design
Out of experience, it's recommended that the site be constructed based on a universal template based system. This entails the construction of a master template that encompasses the content consistently throughout the site.

A number of advantages are available as a result of this design, including:

Consistent navigation throughout the site.
Prepared for conversion to a future cgi based system if desired
Consistent graphical layout appearance from page to page
Efficient loading time due to re-use of graphics
Avoidance of frames makes it mappable by all major search engines

Front End Construction
All construction will be done as server-side non-cgi based design. Implementation will involve the use of:

Macromedia Dreamweaver 8
Adobe Photoshop CS3
Adobe Illustrator CS3
Macromedia Flash 8
DJJ Holdings Pty Ltd. Swish 2.0

All software will be supplied by Darq Produtions, with no additional incursion of cost to the client.

Site files will be constructed locally and then moved to the development folder located on a development server as each section is completed. Upon launch, the files will be moved to the root folder

Site Launch
Exact site launch date should be discussed with the client.

Sign Off Periods
There are four stages of construction during development that lead up to the final launch of the site. At the end of each stage the designers will get together with the client, to show the completed stage, and allow feedback from the client. This provides the client an accurate idea of the progression of the work, allowing both parties to agree that the stage is mutually satisfactory and complete, before moving onto the next stage of construction.

The four stages of construction requiring sign off are:

Design stage: Photoshop and/or Illustrator layouts of the site as static graphical images to represent the physical layout, and the look and feel of the site.

Template Creation:
Construction of the master template as a html document(s) providing a functional master template page that the client can view within a browser and play with the basic page functions (including navigational elements, rollovers, dropdown lists, flash objects etc.)

Page Generation & Insertion of Content: This includes replication of the template pages to and the insertion and formatting of content, to create the full and navigable site. This also includes generation of new content where required.

Testing, Corrections, and Cleanup: This involves testing of the site on all browsers and/or platforms. Correcting spelling and/or grammatical errors, as well as well verifying usability logic. We will also cleanup unnecessary coding and extraneous files that may impede the efficiency and speed of the site.

Flash Objects
The proposed site will utilize the Macromedia Flash plugin for a portion [proposed] of the introduction, the navigation, and/or certain elements of the content. This assumes that the site user has the flash plugin installed on their browsers (as is common on most browsers).

If the user does not have the plugin installed we will make it available and easily accessible to them for download.

Site Content
Site content may be adapted from a previous site, or fresh content may be generated anew specifically for the project. It is the Client's responsibity to generate site content which may be delivered to Darqproductions in the form of a variety of digital formats including:

PDF files [Adobe Portable Document Format]
DOC files [Microsoft Word Files]
JPEG files [Joint Photgrapher's Expert Group]
GIF files [Graphical Information File]
PSD files [Phtoshop Documents]
TXT files [Microsoft Text Files]

Other digital file formats are acceptable provided they are discussed in advance of the proposal closure. Members of Darqprodutions are not responsible for the generation of content, unless where agreed upon in advance of the proposal closure.

The designers will fill in information gaps in the content where at all possible.

Design and Layout Concepts
In general, each page will have two seamless panels: the navigational cell which will function consistently through out the site, and a content cell which will correspond directly to the page content, and the user's location within the navigation scheme.

Other content information should be discussed and laid out at our first meeting to determine the design layout, and to plan how the navigation and content will be arranged.

The navigational panel will be clear, legible, and accessible from all pages of the site allowing for ease of navigation from any point to any other point. Navigation from any point should be accessible within a maximum of two clicks.

Any link leaving the site will propagate a new browser window, to diminish traffic from leaving the site.

A clear consistent colour scheme will be established for the site layout, up to and including: the fonts, the logo, and the site's graphical elements.

Browser Compliancy
The site should appear in graphically consistent manner across the greatest number browsers, for the maximum number of users, utilizing the smallest amount of code possible.

To achieve this we propose that the site will be optimized for all web browsers version 5.x and up, on both Windows based platforms and Macintosh based platforms. These will include:

Under Microsoft Windows:

Internet Explorer 6.x
Internet Explorer 7.x

Netscape Navigator 7.2.x
Netscape Navigator8.x

Mozilla Firefox 2.0.0.3

Under Macintosh environments:

Internet Explorer 6.x
Internet Explorer 7.x

Netscape Navigator 6.x
Netscape Navigator 7.2.x

Mozilla Firefox 2.0.0.3

This will cover the vast majority of Internet user (around 98.5%), making certain that users will view the site as it was intended.

Designer Link
As we intend to design this site representing our skills and abilities, we would like to use this site as a presentation piece to other companies in the future. We will include a link to our company site located subtlety in the template design.

Cost
The number of designers involved in the project will be duscussed in advance. After discussing the project requirements and conjecturing the work involved, we will estimate the maximum construction time.

Proposed rates for each designer are @ $45 CAD per hour. We can alterantively bill on a per template basis, at a rate of $300 CAD per template.

Most people opt to do a combination, where an over all template is constucted which handles the site layout, and a few additional hours our work to handle content development.
